My friend Linda closes on her new house today. It’s funny that it’s called a “closing” because, while the move she’s making brings about undeniable ends and alterations to many aspects of her life, it’s opening up so many others. This big new adventure holds the promise of a new home, new friends, new work, and, most happily of all, the welcoming of a whole new life as Linda anticipates the birth of her first grandchild. It’s been a mingling of bitter and sweet as she’s made the decisions she’s made, but she knows that this is the right thing for her to do, and while I’ll miss her, I can only be happy for her as she moves. This does not end our friendship–it’s a mere alteration, a necessary change.
My hopes and wishes for you, my dear friend, are for joy in abundance and the warmth of love, laughter, and friendship in your new home.
Postscript: Linda bought her home at 2:30 yesterday. She became a grandma at 5:30. Welcome, baby boy!
